With a long tradition of Native American archery, traditional bows and the art of competition archery in the United State has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the past fifty years with a variety of national competitions and archery societies offering membership and events. Although primitive bows are in a minority as far as standard bow use is concerned, traditional contest events have grown increasingly popular since the 1980s. Archery has even garnered interest from professional engineers who have become involved in the physics and construction of modern bows. Much commercial development of bows has come from scientific involvement.
